Basketball Game Preview: Gregory-Portland Wildcats vs. Carroll Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Gregory-Portland Wildcats take on the Carroll Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday... Gregory-Portland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 games -- so hopefully Carroll likes a good challenge.

Gregory-Portland will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Flour Bluff, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Gregory-Portland came out on top against Flour Bluff by a score of 61-52 on Tuesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Hornets are ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Carroll was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 80-51 loss at the hands of Ray.

Gregory-Portland is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. As for Carroll, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Gregory-Portland took their victory against Carroll in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 84-64. Will Gregory-Portland repeat their success, or does Carroll have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
