Baseball Recap: Marcellus Picks Up 22nd Straight Win at Home

Marcellus had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. They blew past the Bloomingdale Cardinals 20-10. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-1 on Thursday.

Abram Coffey was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Marcellus got a massive performance out of Brock McWilliams, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave McWilliams a new career-high in hits (three). Jakob Huber was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.

Marcellus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .561 or higher in four consecutive games.

Marcellus' win was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Bloomingdale, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcellus will head out to square off against Schoolcraft at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomingdale, they will take on Lawrence at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
