Softball Game Preview: Pinecrest Patriots vs. Lee County Yellow Jackets

The Pinecrest Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Lee County Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pinecrest has given up an average of 14.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Last Tuesday, Pinecrest came up short against Southern Lee and fell 17-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (12), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Arianna Reddinger led a balanced group of hitters, scoring four runs while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Hatcher, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Reddinger wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Pinecrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lee County didn't have quite enough to beat Triton on Thursday and fell 6-5. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

McKenzy Mcdougald made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Kallie Byrd was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Pinecrest's record is now 2-4. As for Lee County, their record is now 1-4.

Lee County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pinecrest has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .522. It's a different story for Lee County, though, as they've only averaged .303. Will they be able to contain Pinecrest's hitters?

Pinecrest couldn't quite get it done against Lee County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Pinecrest avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
