Baseball Game Preview: Hawthorne Hornets vs. Saint Francis Catholic Wolves

The Hawthorne Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Saint Francis Catholic Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hawthorne will be strutting in after a win while Saint Francis Catholic will be coming in after a defeat.

Hawthorne was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past St. John Lutheran 7-5.

Wyatt Jacobs made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jacobs was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Branson Byrd, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Saint Francis Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Fort White by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Indians: they've now lost three in a row.

Saint Francis Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Durstine, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Hawthorne might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Saint Francis Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Hawthorne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
