Softball Game Preview: Brighton Cardinals vs. Craigmont Chiefs

The Brighton Cardinals will square off against the Craigmont Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brighton will be strutting in after a victory while Craigmont will be coming in after a loss.

Brighton was handed a eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Arlington. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Laney Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Ryleigh McCain and Aliya Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: McCain went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Garcia scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits McCain has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aeryl Potter, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Craigmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 20-1 to Fayette Ware.

Craigmont's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Brighton, their win bumped their record up to 6-7-2.

Everything went Brighton's way against Craigmont when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Brighton made off with a 15-0 victory. Does Brighton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Craigmont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
