Higley extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping them down to 5-13. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Desert Ridge Jaguars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 8-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Suriana Abeyta and Skylar Jones did some serious damage despite the final result: Abeyta went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Jones went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that Abeyta has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Zoie Van Hoek, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Desert Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.
On Desert Ridge's side, Elin Burger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Desert Ridge's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Halle Davis, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brooklyn Johnson was another, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Desert Ridge will face off against Sunrise Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. Higley will be paying especially close attention to Desert Ridge's contest: after Desert Ridge faces off against Sunrise Mountain, they'll take on Higley again at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
