Softball Game Preview: Wyoming East Warriors vs. Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles

Wyoming East is 0-5 against Woodrow Wilson since April of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Flying Eagles at 5:30 p.m.

Wyoming East is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Chapmanville Regional on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 9-1.

Wyoming East saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlee Rollins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that Rollins snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson made easy work of Oak Hill on Thursday and carried off a 13-4 win. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Flying Eagles this season.

Aubrey Smallwood was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shailee Sexton, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hadley Reott, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Woodrow Wilson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Hill only managed five hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Woodrow Wilson and bumps their season record up to 6-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Wyoming East, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Wyoming East might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Woodrow Wilson when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
