Baseball Recap: Westlake Comes Up Short

Westlake extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 6-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Copper Hills Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, with their most recent loss being a 11-1 defeat on Wednesday.

Dawson Ferguson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Westlake: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Jensen Campbell was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Copper Hills, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch.

On Copper Hills' side, Gage Lintz was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Carrillo Jr, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westlake will host Bingham at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunder's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Miners have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Copper Hills, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mountain Ridge at 3:30 p.m. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sentinels have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
