Basketball Game Preview: Holmes Huskies vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

Two dominant guards in Crystal Aragon and Jordan Pete are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Holmes Huskies will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Sotomayor WILDCATS at 5:00 p.m. Holmes is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.

Holmes is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Warren just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They were outmatched by the Warriors and fell 68-40. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Warriors are ranked 155th).

Despite their defeat, Holmes saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ashley Aragon, who posted 14 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance gave Aragon a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Theresa Caravlho, who put up seven points and 12 boards.

Meanwhile, Sotomayor had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They strolled past the Rams with points to spare, taking the game 52-34.

Sotomayor's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 16-12.
