Basketball Game Preview: Tipton Cardinals vs. Owensboro Catholic Aces

The Tipton Cardinals will take on the Owensboro Catholic Aces at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Owensboro Catholic took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Tipton, who comes in off a win.

If Tipton beats Owensboro Catholic with 68 points on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cardinals beat West Plains last Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 68-60.

Tipton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison Carvajal led the charge by shooting 56% from the field to rack up 30 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Carvajal a new career-high in blocks (four). Ava Schlotzhauer was another key player, dropping a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Owensboro Catholic had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 70-46 to Castle on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Aces have suffered against the Knights since November 26, 2018.

Tipton will need to focus on slowing down Claudia Munsey, one of several Owensboro Catholic players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 13 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Newby, who had seven points and seven rebounds.
