Basketball Recap: University's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

After flying high against Manitou Springs on Friday, University came back down to earth. The University Bulldogs took an 84-65 bruising from the Denver West Cowboys on Saturday. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

University's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Elbe, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Elbe a new career-high in steals (two). Coehn Nitzel was another key player, going 6 for 10 on his way to 17 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Denver West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ngor AGU, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. Jeremiah Parker was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

University's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Denver West, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

University will welcome D'Evelyn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in University's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Denver West will take on Conifer in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Conifer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
