With a playoff win on the line, Olympian rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the West Ranch Wildcats. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their 14th in a row.
Alexandra Perez tossed a big game, striking out six batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacqui De Murguia, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jaiden Liera was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Olympian pushed their record up to 20-12-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Ranch, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-16.
Looking ahead, Olympian will take on Point Loma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.6, the Pointers 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. West Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
