Baseball Recap: Saranac Comes Up Short

Saranac dropped their record down to 12-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Peru Nighthawks by a score of 11-9. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Nighthawks earlier this season, when they won 9-2.

Brody Macomber and Seth Petrashune did some serious damage despite the final result: Macomber went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Petrashune went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That double marked the first that Macomber has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Max Coryer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

As for Peru, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.6 runs.

On Peru's side, Kalib Smith was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Moore, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saranac will face off against Northern Adirondack at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Peru, they will challenge Saranac Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
