Basketball Recap: Cumberland Pirates vs. Vandalia Vandals
Cumberland unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 57-50 to the Vandalia Vandals on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 52-33 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Roedl, who went 6 for 15 en route to 18 points plus two steals. The dominant performance also gave Roedl a new career-high in threes (four). Another player making a difference was Chase Stewart, who went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points.
Cumberland will take on Newton in a tournament on Friday. As for Vandalia, they will face off against Dieterich at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
