Football Recap: Mia Aguirre and Margeil Garcia Lead the Defense for Sierra Win

Sierra won the last time they faced Oakdale and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Timberwolves came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 18-7.

Sierra found their leader in sophomore Tessa Zalunardo, who rushed for 58 yards and one score on only six carries, and also threw for 108 yards on nine of 13 attempts.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sierra's defense and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Mia Aguirre and Margeil Garcia, who racked up all four sacks between them. Garcia is crushing it when it comes to sacks: she's posted at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

The victory got Sierra back to even at 5-5. As for Oakdale, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sierra is set to square off against their familiar foe East Union at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Timberwolves 10.6, the Lancers 9.8) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Oakdale will challenge rival Mountain House at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
