Basketball Recap: Caleb Walker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Nebraska City over Gross Catholic

Nebraska City lost against Gross Catholic back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Nebraska City Pioneers took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gross Catholic Cougars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), the Pioneers still had to take the loss.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caleb Walker, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Walker a new career-high in points. Brayden Earll was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Nebraska City's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Gross Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-16 record this season.

Nebraska City will face off against Standing Bear at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Nebraska City's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Gross Catholic, they have already played their next game, a 73-71 loss against Mount Michael Benedictine on the 21st.
