Baseball Recap: Killian Triumphs

Killian hadn't done well against Belen Jesuit recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Killian sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Belen Jesuit. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 6-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sebastian Perez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Killian is 5-2 when Perez allowsone or fewer hits, but 3-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Lucas Arcaute was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Killian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Jonathan Acosta was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The win got Killian back to even at 8-8. As for Belen Jesuit, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Looking ahead, Killian will square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belen Jesuit, they have already played their next matchup, a 6-1 loss against Monsignor Pace on the 26th.
