The Archbishop Williams Bishops will venture away from home to challenge the St. John Paul II Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Archbishop Williams will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Bishop Fenwick, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bishops had just enough and edged out the Crusaders 6-5 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Bishops have beaten the Crusaders on their field since June 3, 2021.
Meanwhile, St. John Paul II strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Rising Tide with a sharp 31-0 win. That 31 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Logan Our was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Ryan Amerault and Colin Buckley dominated on the mound. Amerault got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base, while Buckley went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Back at the plate, St. John Paul II got a massive performance out of Henry Roy, who went 2-for-6 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Oscar Johnson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
St. John Paul II always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .723. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Archbishop Williams' victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for St. John Paul II, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Archbishop Williams couldn't quite get it done against St. John Paul II when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Bishops avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
