Baseball Game Preview: Dakota Ridge Eagles vs. Roosevelt Roughriders

The Dakota Ridge Eagles will take on the Roosevelt Roughriders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Dakota Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Roosevelt will be coming in after a loss.

Dakota Ridge came out on top against Pomona on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run seventh inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Panthers. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Bo Bixby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Breckin Maynes and Braden Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Maynes got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Johnson went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Maynes has become a key player for Dakota Ridge: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kellen Behrendsen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt fell victim to Greeley West and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The game marked the first time this year in which the Roughriders were not able to get on the board.

Dakota Ridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-2.

Dakota Ridge couldn't quite get it done against Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 3-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
