The Rochelle Zell Jewish Tigers will head out to challenge the Westmont Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Rochelle Zell Jewish has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rochelle Zell Jewish is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Fasman Yeshiva on Sunday. They came up short against Fasman Yeshiva, falling 18-2. The Tigers haven't had much luck with Fasman Yeshiva recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westmont). They blew past Bulls College Prep 27-6 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Sentinels sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Alex Meyer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last two games. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, Rocco Damato was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Yenkin, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.
Westmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westmont pushed their record up to 20-8-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rochelle Zell Jewish, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Rochelle Zell Jewish might still be hurting after the 19-2 loss they got from Westmont in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
