Baseball Recap: Smithsburg Gets the Win

Smithsburg won against Governor Thomas Johnson last Friday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Smithsburg came out on top against the Martinsburg Bulldogs by a score of 7-2. For the Leopards, this counts as revenge for the 14-6 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Gavin Ramarge made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Ramarge was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Burger, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Chase Sarber was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Smithsburg has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.0 runs this season. As for Martinsburg, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Smithsburg will host Urbana at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Martinsburg, they will venture away from home to square off against Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
