Preview: San Tan Foothills Sabercats vs. Odyssey Institute Minotaur
San Tan Foothills is 0-4 against Odyssey Institute since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The San Tan Foothills Sabercats will head out on the road to square off against the Odyssey Institute Minotaur at 7:00 p.m. San Tan Foothills is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
San Tan Foothills suffered their biggest loss since November 20, 2023 on Thursday. They were beaten by Lincoln Prep 59-21.
Despite the loss, San Tan Foothills had strong showings from Sydnee Visoso, who scored eight points, and Abigail Horlacher, who scored a point along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Odyssey Institute scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past Kingman 49-25. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Odyssey Institute has posted yet this season.
Odyssey Institute can attribute much of their success to Shelby Hunt, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmaria Flowers, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
San Tan Foothills bumped their record down to 5-14 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Odyssey Institute, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's game: San Tan Foothills have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Odyssey Institute, though, as they've been averaging only 1 threes per game. Given San Tan Foothills' sizeable advantage in that area, Odyssey Institute will need to find a way to close that gap.
San Tan Foothills might still be hurting after the 43-17 defeat they got from Odyssey Institute in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Can San Tan Foothills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
