Basketball Recap: Ishaia Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East St. Louis over Edwardsville

East St. Louis lost against Edwardsville back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The East St. Louis Flyers came up short against the Edwardsville Tigers, falling 74-51. While losing is never fun, the Flyers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Tigers are ranked tenth).

Several Flyers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ishaia Brown, who posted six points and 13 boards. Brown has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devrice Johnson, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, East St. Louis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.

East St. Louis' defeat dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Edwardsville, they pushed their record up to 25-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, East St. Louis will head out to square off against O'Fallon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Edwardsville, they will welcome Collinsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Edwardsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
