Softball Recap: Colton's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Colton came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Rosalia Spartans with a sharp 23-3 victory. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 17-7 victory on Friday.

Clair Moehrle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Moehrle was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Ella Nollmeyer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Holly Heitstuman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Colton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .452 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Colton pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.8 runs over those games. As for Rosalia, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Colton will venture away from home to take on Pomeroy at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Rosalia, they will head out on the road to face off against Garfield-Palouse at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
