Preview: Mohave Thunderbirds vs. Safford Bulldogs
The Mohave Thunderbirds will be playing at home against the Safford Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mohave will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Mohave was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-29 to Sabino.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Joe Yoney JR, who rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jonathon Williams, who gained 194 total yards.
Meanwhile, Safford was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 19-14 to Pusch Ridge Christian Academy. Safford has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Manuel Dawson, who rushed for 126 yards. Dawson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Jojo Ruelas was another key contributor, rushing for 20 yards and a touchdown.
The losses dropped Mohave to 9-1 and Safford to 4-6.
