Baseball Recap: Cheney Comes Up Short

If Cheney was riding high fresh off their 12-1 takedown of Lewis & Clark last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blackhawks fell just short of the Mead Panthers by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Jace Vega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Cheney is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Cheney saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Martin, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Cheney now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Mead, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

While Cheney had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
