Baseball Recap: Resurrection Christian Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Resurrection Christian walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The Cougars' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.

Not much got past Braedyn Budd, who gave up just three hits to keep Montezuma-Cortez off the board. Budd has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Resurrection Christian's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Vincent Fuller, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Charley Wilson was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Resurrection Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.

Resurrection Christian pushed their record up to 18-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Montezuma-Cortez, with the defeat, they broke their 13-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-5.

Coming up, Resurrection Christian will challenge University at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they will square off against Valley at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games the Vikings have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
