Football Recap: Jase Davis and Ben Singleton Secure Win for Creek Wood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Creek Wood). They put the hurt on the Battle Creek Grizzlies with a sharp 41-20 win on Friday.

Creek Wood was led to victory by Ben Singleton and Jase Davis. Singleton threw for 139 yards and two TDs on only 12 passes, while Davis rushed for 35 yards and one score. What's more, Singleton racked up 131.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Creek Wood proved: they limited Battle Creek to a paltry 0.5 yards per carry. The Red Hawks didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.4.

Battle Creek's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Lemming, who picked up 105 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one rushing score. Lemming showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Colten Barba, who threw for 273 yards and a pair of TDs on only 16 passes.

Creek Wood's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Battle Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-4.

Looking ahead, Creek Wood will square off against Spring Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Battle Creek, they will take on Marshall County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.2 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
