Football Recap: Taff James' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Groves over Johnson + How To Watch

Groves extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They fell 35-26 to the Johnson Atomsmashers. On the bright side, the 26- point performance marked the Rebels' highest-scoring match to date.

Groves' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taff James, who rushed for 66 yards and one TD on only nine carries, and also picked up 52 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another signal caller making a difference was Kaleb Detty, who threw for 218 yards and a pair of TDs.

As for Johnson, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their 13-point performance the game before.

Shamari King produced another solid effort rushing for 252 yards and four scores on only 15 carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.

Groves and Johnson will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Rebels see the field they'll take on Southeast Bulloch at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. As for Johnson, their break will end when they face Liberty County at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
