Volleyball Recap: St. Joseph's Catholic Falls Despite Big Games from LILY VELKY and ALICIA HANLEY

St. Joseph's Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the First Presbyterian Academy at Shannon Forest Crusaders. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Crusaders 25-18 in the first set.

St. Joseph's Catholic started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-22, 16-14.

Despite the loss, St. Joseph's Catholic had strong showings from ALICIA HANLEY, who had six digs and two aces, and LILY VELKY, who had seven digs and two aces.

Bryson McGrath was nothing short of spectacular for First Presbyterian Academy at Shannon Forest: she had 24 digs and two assists. Those 24 digs gave McGrath a new career-high.

St. Joseph's Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for First Presbyterian Academy at Shannon Forest, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph's Catholic will be taking part in a tournament against Wando at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for First Presbyterian Academy at Shannon Forest, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Powdersville on the 28th.
