Basketball Game Preview: Wheeler Mustangs vs. Panhandle Panthers

Wheeler is 0-9 against Panhandle since December of 2014 but things could change on Friday. The Wheeler Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Panhandle Panthers at 6:30 p.m.

It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Wheeler challenged Clarendon on Tuesday. Wheeler was beaten by Clarendon 78-7. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1056th, while the Broncos are ranked 59th).

Meanwhile, Panhandle put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 50-42 win over Clarendon.

Panhandle pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Wheeler, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Wheeler was taken down by Panhandle 86-16 when the teams last played back in February of 2021. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wheeler was down 43-8.
