Football Recap: Sutton Mustangs vs. Sandy Creek Cougars
Sutton played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Sandy Creek Cougars and fell 55-14. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Cougars are ranked third).
Juan Reyes and Griffin Bergen certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Reyes rushed for 56 yards and one score, while Bergen rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown.
Sandy Creek was led to victory by Kam Sealey and Kaeden Schmidt. Sealey rushed for 145 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, while Schmidt rushed for 101 yards and three scores on only five carries. Schmidt got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Logan Tomky, who picked up 50 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Sutton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Sandy Creek, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.
Coming up, Sutton will head out to take on Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will be up against the Raiders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.83 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sandy Creek, they will be playing at home against Exeter-Milligan/Friend at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
