Softball Recap: Chester Sets Scoring Season-High Against Redding Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chester). Everything went their way against the Redding Christian Lions on Thursday as they made off with a 22-1 win. The Volcanoes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Jenna Schlueter and Brianna Dean made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Schlueter pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Dean tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Schlueter went 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBI, while Dean went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Schlueter a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Kistle, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Delong, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Chester, bringing their record up to 14-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Redding Christian, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14-1.

Looking ahead, Chester will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Los Molinos at 4:00 p.m. The Bulldogs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Redding Christian, they will square off against Burney at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
