Football Recap: Montville Falls Short of Weequahic in the Playoffs

Montville and Weequahic squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Montville had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Indians and fell 33-6. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.

Nora Istvan threw for 71 yards on nine of 18 attempts. Kayla Martinez was her top target, picking up 48 receiving yards. On the ground, Sierra Turner rushed for 55 yards and one TD on only seven carries.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weequahic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samiyah Hutchins, who rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 44 receiving yards and one score. Hutchins didn't just play on offense: she also made seven total tackles and defended one pass. Heaven Porter was another key player, gaining 145 total yards and a touchdown.

This is the second loss in a row for Montville and nudges their season record down to 5-3-1. As for Weequahic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Montville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Weequahic, they are taking a road trip to square off against Ridgewood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Indians 7.3, the Maroons 3.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
