Baseball Recap: Knox Redskins vs. Culver Academies Eagles

Knox extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 5-7-1. They fell 9-6 to the Culver Academies Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 last Wednesday.

Xavier Boyd and Myles Mclaughlin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Boyd got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Mclaughlin went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Culver Academies, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Culver Academies' side, Sam Grundberg made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Grundberg posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Culver Academies got a massive performance out of Ainsley Ritchie, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Ritchie has posted since back in May of 2025. Nick Langenberg also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knox will welcome Tippecanoe Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Culver Academies, they will take on Peru at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
