Softball Recap: Fillmore's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

If Fillmore was riding high fresh off their 11-4 takedown of Arkport Central on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Genesee Valley Jaguars on Thursday. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mylee Miller was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Morghyn Ross and Mattie McCumiskey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Ross got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while McCumiskey went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was McCumiskey's first of the season.

Fillmore moved to 5-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Genesee Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fillmore will head out to take on Arkport Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Genesee Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against Canisteo-Greenwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
