Football Game Preview: Venice Gondoliers vs. Westchester Comets

Venice has gone a perfect 10-0 against Westchester recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Gondoliers will square off against the Comets at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Venice barely beat Fairfax the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gondoliers never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Thursday. That 24 point margin sets a new team best for the Gondoliers this season.

Johnathan Lee was the offensive standout of the matchup as he picked up 52 receiving yards and one TD. Those 52 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

Venice didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Remy Carpenter and George Camaj.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Westchester and Hamilton meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Comets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 29-26 win over the Yankees.

Venice better keep an eye on Wyatt Orr. He was instrumental in Westchester's win, rushing for 117 yards and three scores on only ten carries. Orr is becoming a predictor of the Comets' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

The victory got Westchester back to even at 4-4. As for Venice, the win also got them back to even at 4-4.

Venice beat Westchester 28-15 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gondoliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
