Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Takes a Loss

If St. Mary was riding high fresh off their 75-48 takedown of Lancaster on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The St. Mary's Lancers fell 81-72 to the Iroquois Redhawks on Saturday. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Will Szablewski, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points Szablewski has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Israel Wilson, who posted 16 points and five steals.

St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Iroquois, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

St. Mary's will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cardinal O'Hara at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Iroquois, they will finish 2024 at home by hosting Hamburg at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
