Baseball Game Preview: Libertyville Wildcats vs. Grayslake Central Rams

The Libertyville Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Grayslake Central Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Libertyville sitting on seven straight wins and Grayslake Central on four.

On Thursday, Libertyville made easy work of Carmel and carried off an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brady Buenik tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Quinn Schambow was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Carson Holmes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Grayslake Central posted their closest win since April 21st on Friday. They skirted past Grant Community 6-4.

Libertyville pushed their record up to 24-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Grayslake Central, their record now sits at 20-5.

Libertyville came out on top in a nail-biter against Grayslake Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
