Basketball Recap: Emerald Comes Up Short

Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 28th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 56-11 defeat at the hands of the Laurens Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-9 back in January.

Laurens' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tiyonna Jones led the charge by putting up 11 points along with six steals and five assists. Jones is becoming a predictor of the Raiders' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 6-1 (and 9-10 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Keyorie Yeargin, who went 5-for-8 en route to 10 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Emerald's loss dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Laurens, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-11.

As of now, neither Emerald nor the Raiders have any future games scheduled.
