Baseball Recap: Morton Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

While Morton put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Eureka. The Potters were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Hornets. The result was nothing new for the Potters, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Alex McKie's shutout, as he gave up just six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jude Parnham, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Jack Blosser also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Morton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

With the win, Morton broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 18-9. As for Eureka, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Morton will square off against Dunlap at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Potters' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Eureka, they will take on Bloomington Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
