Football Preview: South El Monte Eagles vs. El Monte Lions        
        
		
             The South El Monte Eagles will challenge the El Monte Lions at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. The two teams have allowed few  points on average, (South El Monte: 14.8, El Monte: 14.8) so any  points scored will be well earned.
 South El Monte is headed in fresh off scoring the most  points they have all season. They breezed by Mountain View at home  to the tune of  42-0 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shutout in their previous   match.
  Matthew Medina was nothing short of spectacular: he threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes.  Damian Cordova helped  Medina out on the ground, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown.
 Meanwhile, El Monte won against San Gabriel  last Friday with 28  points and they decided to stick to that  point total again  on Friday. El Monte enjoyed a cozy  28-14 victory over Gabrielino. The  win made it back-to-back  victories for the Lions.
  Felipe Taboada was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 156 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of  Isaiah Standley, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
 El Monte wouldn't let Gabrielino keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. El Monte can thank  Jason Lopez-Torres and  Yandel Ramirez for forcing both of them. Another thorn in Gabrielino's side was  Nathan Jimenez, who picked up  1.5  sacks and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).
 El Monte was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 324  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've managed all season.
 The  win  got South El Monte back to even at 3-3. As for El Monte, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the  victory, which was their fourth straight  at home.
 Everything came up roses for South El Monte against El Monte in their previous meeting  back in September of 2023, as the  squad secured  a  42-8 win. Will South El Monte repeat their success,  or does  El Monte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
