Basketball Recap: Cam Hurt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pinnacle over Centennial

If Pinnacle was riding high fresh off their 49-28 takedown of Williams Field on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pioneers fell just short of the Centennial Coyotes by a score of 56-54 on Saturday. The Pioneers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cam Hurt, who shot 47% from the field on his way to 17 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Hurt is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. Kareem Alkhalifa was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

It was another big night for Johnny Rios, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards for Centennial. The dominant performance also gave Rios a new career-high in blocks (two). Moses Woinewala also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Pinnacle's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Centennial, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Looking ahead, Pinnacle will venture away from home to take on Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Centennial, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
