Basketball Recap: Justin Rubio and Daniel Hernandez Secure Win for Estancia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Estancia). They walked away with a 66-53 win over the Capitan Tigers on Tuesday. With that victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 50.8 points per game.

Leading Estancia to victory were Daniel Hernandez and Justin Rubio. Hernandez dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards, while Rubio dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in boards. Marcos Lucero was another key player, putting up eight points.

Estancia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Estancia moved to 1-3 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Capitan, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Estancia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-47 victory against Laguna Acoma on the 12th. As for Capitan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 111-38 loss against Fort Sumner/House on the 12th.
