Preview: Warrensburg Burgers vs. North Warren Central Cougars
Warrensburg is 2-8 against North Warren Central since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Warrensburg Burgers will be staying on the road to face off against the North Warren Central Cougars at 6:45 p.m. on February 10th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Warrensburg beat Lake George 43-32. That's two games straight that Warrensburg has won by exactly 11 points.
Warrensburg had a senior duo take command as Brady Cheney scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and Evan Lapell dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Lapell hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Steve Schloss, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, North Warren Central gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Granville as North Warren Central made off with a 73-53 victory. The win was nothing new for North Warren Central as they're now sitting on four straight.
Semaj Cuyler and Derrick Tyrell were among the main playmakers for North Warren Central as the former scored 23 points along with five assists and two steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds. Tyrell is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Horge, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Warrensburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for North Warren Central, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Warrensburg have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Warren Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Warrensburg came up short against North Warren Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 48-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cuyler, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds.
