Bishop Feehan and Bishop Stang are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Shamrocks will be playing at home against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop Feehan 3.5, Bishop Stang 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Feehan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Bishop Fenwick on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-1 win. The Shamrocks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Ayden Mello and Jack Gasse dominated on the mound. Mello pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Gasse tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Gasse has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bishop Feehan got a massive performance out of Connor Pullen, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Randen May, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one triple.
Bishop Feehan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bishop Stang came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Cougars.
Ethan Cleveland looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Bobby Rooney was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run. Drew Taylor was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Bishop Stang's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Feehan, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Feehan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Bishop Stang struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
