Softball Preview: Bishop's Knights vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers
The Bishop's Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Bay Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop's will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Bishop's is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Montgomery as they made off with an 11-0 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Jayla Stafford, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Bravo, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bishop's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Mission Bay sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Palo Verde Valley on Wednesday.
Abby Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kassie Zavala was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Mission Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Bishop's, their record is now 13-8-1.
