Softball Recap: Monticello Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Monticello entered their tilt with Rantoul on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Eagles 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Sages, who have now won 12 matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sadie Walsh and Thea Key did most of the damage at the plate: Walsh went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double, while Key went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Key has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Avery Schweitzer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Monticello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Monticello pushed their record up to 22-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Rantoul, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monticello will take on Olympia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Rantoul, they will face off against Clinton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Maroons at the right time seeing as the Maroons are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
