Rural Retreat has gone 9-1 against Patrick Henry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Indians are taking a road trip to face off against the Rebels at 7:00 p.m. Rural Retreat has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rural Retreat came up short against Chilhowie on Tuesday, falling 16-4. The loss continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost six in a row.
Rural Retreat saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Childers, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another was Eli Poole, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Patrick Henry beat Honaker 5-2 on Tuesday. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Kolby Hicks made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Patrick Henry is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Hicks was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Brown, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Alex Brown was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Patrick Henry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-7. As for Rural Retreat, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rural Retreat has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Patrick Henry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Rural Retreat's way against Patrick Henry in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Rural Retreat made off with a 15-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
