Football Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Lakeland Dreadnaughts

The Sumner Stingrays will venture away from home to take on the Lakeland Dreadnaughts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lakeland will be up against a hot Sumner squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Stingrays blew past Plant City 44-21 on Friday. Considering the Stingrays have won three matchups by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sumner didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off seven passes before the game was over. Jameris Conyers led the group effort, picking up four of those interceptions all by himself. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Tyler Lynch got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Lakeland got themselves on the board against Lake Gibson on Friday, but Lake Gibson never followed suit. They breezed past the Braves to the tune of 40-0. The Dreadnaughts haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Sumner's record now sits at 5-1. As for Lakeland, their record is now 4-1.

Sumner took a serious blow against Lakeland when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 28-0. Can the Stingrays avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
